Statement

The everyday objects that surround us can be extremely curious when seen in isolation. Familiar objects such as furniture, crutches, tools can be used as potent symbols that anchor our past with our future when removed from their present context. I like to view and use common materials as gestures of our culture, artifacts that can tell us more about ourselves by evoking personal responses. I often use the human figure cutout of textured metal and suspended in mid-gesture to imply that an action is about to take place or has just taken place.

My work embodies isolated memories in sterling silver. Bach piece is based on a moment in my personal history. The works consist of a dioramic stage (sometimes a geometric form) fabricated out of silver with a representative object placed within this environment to embody the essence of a memory.

The format is not purely realistic, but abstracted, as would be the recollection of incidence in the past. The ideas for my pieces are sometimes also based upon politics and the irony of certain political movements in our country. The evening news has always been a great source of information to use in a satirical manner; invariably there's plenty of new material.
