Heather White

Heather White is an Akron-based metalsmith whose has been exhibited since 1988.White’s work is highly influenced by historical metal objects and ornamentation made for royal figures, non-secular rituals, and military forces such as crowns, brooches and other forms of adornment. These pieces are at once beautiful sculptural forms and functional objects that relate to the viewers’ physical presence, to the essence and history of antiquated objects and to the concerns of this era. White’s work combines the inherent beauty of working with precious metals with larger issues surrounding ornamentation and decoration. She is currently teaching Metalsmithing and Jewelry at Mass College of Art.

White has exhibited throughout the Ohio region at the Akron Art Museum, the Sculpture Center and at SPACES among others.  She also has an national and international exhibition record including the Bavarian Association for Arts and Crafts, Munich, Germany; the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, England; the Society for Arts and Crafts, Boston, MA; and the Society for Contemporary Craft, Pittsburgh, PA.
