Jennifer Trask: Unnatural Histories: Flourish

Ongoing Exhibition

Jennifer Trask makes one-of-a-kind jewelry objects and sculpture that exploit the inherent beauty of natural materials. Her work results from a passion for discovery, study and contemplation of the material world.

A Massachusetts native, Trask attended Massachusetts College of Art completing her BFA in Metalsmithing in 1993 and later graduated the State University of NY at New Paltz with an MFA in 1997 and is a full time studio artist.

Trask's work can be seen in public collections such as the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Museum of Arts and Design in New York.   Articles and reviews have recently appeared in W, American Craft, The Sunday Boston Globe Arts section, and Metalsmith Magazine, among others.

In December, Trask’s new show, Unnatural Histories: Flourish

will be on view at Mobilia Gallery.

This is a continuation, or, part two, of the Unnatural Histories show from 2007.  In this series, the hybrids are not just cross-species hybrids, but cross discipline as well.  Drawings and paintings come to life,

flora and fauna, mineral and vegetal thrive and outgrow containment.

*** The bone and pre-ban ivory is found in my rural environment, or purchased in flea markets, then altered by carving or inlay. The gold or palladium frameworks are made from recycled material only.
