In "Book Marks", master metalsmith Marilyn da Silva uses her unique method of drawing on copper to fabricate richly colored book scenes. Each sculpture is a small stage exploring surreal and dream-like situations. These wonderful books are a combination of hammered, fabricated, etched, chased, cast and found elements which have been colored with gesso and colored pencil.
Marilyn da Silva is professor and program chair of the Jewelry / Metal Arts department at the California College of the Arts in Oakland, California, and has received the honor of being selected as a Fellow of the American Craft Council. Her work is in the public collections of Indiana University, the Oakland Museum of California, the Racine Art Museum and the Modern Museum of Art, Seoul, Korea.
