In 2003, Mobilia Gallery held a very successful exhibit in memory of the gifted furniture
artist, teacher, and writer Michael Pierschalla. With the help of furniture artists in that
exhibition, we were able to use proceeds from the sale to set up a scholarship fund
in Pierschalla’s name at Penland School of Crafts. In these difficult economic times, we recognize the value of such a scholarship to artists interested in attending workshops at Penland. We have decided to contribute again to this scholarship fund and showcase outstanding furniture artists with another Pierschalla Furniture exhibit in 2010. We hope that this exhibit will allow more artists to take advantage of Penland’s workshops.
The exhibition will be on display from June 15, 2010 through July 31, 2010. This will
coincide with Fusions: Minds and Hands Shaping Our Future, The Furniture Society conference held at MIT June 16-19, 2010. The Pierschalla Memorial Scholarship Furniture Exhibition will feature works by Sue Aygarn-Kowalski, Vivian Beer, Garry Knox Bennett, Matthew Collins, Reagan Furqueron, Ross Kowalski, Tom Loeser, Jennifer Maestre, Sarah Martin, Alison McLennan, John McQueen, Yoko Miyaji-Zeltserman, Timothy Philbrook, Charles Radtke, Sylvie Rosenthal and Jay Stanger, among others.
