Tomomi Murayama’s hand-fabricated sculptures explore imagery inspired by Japanese manga. His visceral forms are created with varied metalsmithing techniques. Some examples of his artistic range include repousse and chasing, or hammering on alternating sides of the metal to create a shape; finishing with traditional Japanese urushi, which is the sap of a Japanese tree applied by brush; and applied gold and silver leaf. These processes are painstakingly delicate, resulting in carefully formed lifelike figures that exude vitality and whimsy.
