John McQueen pushes the boundaries of his media, often working with twigs, which he cultivates from willow trees, waxed linen and industrial plastic ties. His work is sometimes accompanied by poetry or stories, and often hints at something between the lines, both physical and figurative.
McQueen’s work often incorporates a characteristic wit that may be lost at first glance. For an exhibition at Mobilia in the early 2000s, he created a three-dimensional sea of toast, imitating the famous Hokusai print, with his partner, Margo Mensing.
