Standing Man
Hammered copper, silver leaf, pigment, urushi
42.5" x 19.75" x 13"
Often called a sculptor’s sculptor, Tomomi Maruyama creates figures based on figments of his imagination. He is a master of hammering, making large raised and repoussé surfaces and welding them together. The sculptures are immaculately finished with urushi, a traditional Japanese lacquer, as well as gold and silver leaf. This flawless and time-consuming technique leaves all metalsmiths in awe.
